While we often spend the hot summer months in the same pair of soft, airy sandals, autumn and winter require a more varied – and more durable – shoe inventory.Soft leather biker boots for stomping through leaves on long winter walks; mid-heel pixie boots for wearing with maxi skirts and chunky knits on cold commutes; comfy trainers for Saturdays spent searching for the perfect Christmas gifts; and, of course, deliciously soft faux-fur lined slippers for those cosy nights in. The winter shoe collection mixes style and substance. There are walking shoes that are waterproof, as well as breathable trainers and boots with cushioned soles. Here are some of the styles we’re looking for in our winter ‘warmdrobe.’
Lace-up leather biker boot
The superior leather finish, comfortable padded interior, and lightweight, flexible sole make these motorcycle boots extremely wearable this winter. They come in traditional black or dark brown and have a clever inner side zip for simple access, so it won’t take you 20 minutes to put them on in the morning. Wear with floral midi-skirts and cozy knitwear for a feel-good throwback noughties vibe.
The large loafer
Loafers are THE AW22 shoe, and we love Ava’s hefty sole and patent finish in wine, tan, or black. The plush padded leather insole adds comfort, making them ideal for everyday wear. Wear with tailored wide-leg trousers for a polished look, or with skirts and dresses for a new season edge.
The high-top shoe
The Harlow, a hybrid between a trainer and a biker boot, can perform both while giving durability and comfort. It’s an excellent walking shoe for folks who value form and function. The buckle fastening is adjustable for a custom fit, the padded collar provides additional support, and the cushioned, ultra-light sole is gentle on your feet. We’ll be there with mom jeans and a puffer coat to walk on weekends.
The Chelsea boot is a timeless classic that will never go out of style. The Stella is available in four different colors and fabrics – black, tan, green, and brown – but we adore them in the dark moss green suede finish. They go well with midi dresses, slim jeans, and cropped formal pants.
Everyone needs a go-to pair of sneakers that they can wear with everything, and the Switch is an excellent choice. They pair beautifully with both 90s-inspired satin slip skirts and your favorite straight-leg jeans, thanks to their throwback design and availability in a subdued blue (as well as beige, mint green, and blush pink). You’ll never want to take these off thanks to FreeSole technology and a cushioned insole.
The ankle boot with a block heel
A stunning pair of heeled ankle boots are essential for any winter collection. The Pia’s patent finish and big mid-heel appeal to us. Perfect for a day at the office with a fitted trouser suit, or a night on the town with a satin midi or A-line skirt and a nice knit.
The water-resistant walking boot
If you’re serious about your weekend treks – or if you have a dog who enjoys exploring – you’ll need footwear that can withstand the effort. The Alpine GTX has arrived. These boots, which include waterproof Gore-Tex and lightweight FreeSole technology, will keep you dry, reduce tiredness, and comfort your feet thanks to a dual-density insole. They also come in black and navy, however, we only go for lighter colors.
The slipper boot with faux-fur lining
When the nights draw in, the only place we want to be is indoors, curled up watching television. We were strictly dressed in our dressing gowns and slippers. That’s why we’ve put the Calin snug boot on our wish list. With recycled faux fur inside and a 10mm memory foam insole, you’ll want to slip into these as soon as you walk in the door. (Hint: They’d also make an excellent Christmas gift.)
The sock boot
This is the ultimate slip-on boot. The Julia is available in traditional black or dark brown and is both flexible and comfortable. Padded leather insoles, a soft suede and textile blend finish, and a mid-height heel will keep your feet pleased. Pair it with skinny jeans and soft jumpers or you can pair it with pretty dresses and ribbed socks also.
Best-selling biker boots
To return to boots, if you’re looking for something to get you through snow, gales, and unexpected downpours (because let’s face it, we can get all three in one day), this traditional biker boot (a Hotter bestseller) will provide you with all the support you need. They’ll keep your feet cozy and dry with wrap-around comfort, a breathable liner, and a substantial sole with extra traction, while a characterful full-grain leather finish ensures they look as good as they feel.
